What are the creative arts?
From creativity to the creative arts, we may wonder how the two correspond to each other. It seems art has been a part of human civilization since it began. From the time of cavemen who drew on cave walls or carved things out of stone to hundreds of years later when paint brushes started brushing blank canvases with different colors, this is how most think art began and continued all the way until today.
Art is about creativity and imagination. It takes place in our heads where our mind is. It is an idea before it develops into something on paper. Sometimes we don't do anything and an idea just comes into our heads. Well it's more like we don't do anything other than what we usually do such as eat, sleep, work, learn, play and so on.
If we really did nothing and saw nothing and learned nothing, I don't think such interesting things would form in our minds.
Don't forget about our heart. Our heart is where we feel things and experience life changing emotions. It is not our mind that does that. It is our heart. This is why beautiful art comes from not just the mind but the heart too. We should remember that we not only think things but we feel things too. How can we express our feelings and do it in a way that is proper and good? Some feelings are too strong while others are small and barely noticeable but if you could draw or write it out it could tell you very important things about yourself.
This is the true beauty of artistic expression and it is not limited to that.
Today some of the most popular arts include painting, film, books, dancing, cooking, sculpting and music. When we think about the creative arts, these are the things we most likely think about. However, I want to bring your attention to an even broader spectrum of artistic and creative endeavors.
Think about innovation and how much it affects the world today. It is in the arts. It is in business. It is in so many things we don't even realize. Imagine a housewife who learns to brew coffee a certain way that brings out the taste of the beans she roasts herself. Is that not creativity? Then she wants to turn it into a business and she comes up with a name for her brand and a logo and ways to package her product.
This is creativity working even in something that isn't considered an art.Think about how creativity can help the environment. Humans produce tons of waste and most, if not all, can be recycled and re-used. Just thinking up ways to re-use scraps and broken things that can otherwise harm the environment requires one to be creative.
Think about how the creative arts can help people. Art therapy is becoming a thing which I hope grows a lot more. People are finding that painting, playing board games, listening or playing music, working on a book, practicing yoga, cooking, doing puzzles and shooting a video are things that can help people recovering from mental, emotional and even physical trauma. This sector of business is growing and I feel there is much potential here.
The creative arts are not just about making something pretty or drawing something nice on paper but when done right it can help people, save the environment and much more. Now that is an endeavor worth pursuing to the fullest extent.
