Fact vs. Fiction

Is it fact or fiction? 

fact = something that is real 

fiction = a creative work

This is the dictionary definition in a nutshell, currently.

Fiction is not actually the opposite of fact if you think about it. If it were opposite than fact would be the truth and fiction would mean something that is false. Why then in the creative sphere is it so appealing? It just goes to show that just because something is not tangible or real doesn't mean it cannot be enjoyed. It is important to differentiate what is true and what is false or lies. This is a part of life. It is inescapable and inevitable.

Facts are real and fiction means it is made up. It can be good, it can be bad and it can also be made up. Creativity does not hinge only on things that are real. For the most part it is about things that aren't real. We must look beyond what is good and bad when it comes to fact and fiction because that's only part of it.

Ever heard of something being mundane or boring?

Reality can hurt. It can be the opposite of what we want and therefore people may seek to escape it. This is why creativity is so appealing and is important. Just dealing with facts can bore a person to death but when one gets creative or opens up to a fictional world things can become more interesting. The mind is a powerful thing and we can see it even in the fictional world. Fiction is filled with things like the supernatural, heroes, epic battles, tough journeys, overcoming obstacles, monsters, beasts and more. A lot of it is about things that aren't what normal people deal with on a daily basis.

It may not be real but when we get lost in an adventure written down, drawn or recorded on video it becomes real to us.

As an artist fiction and fantasy can be something amazing. Yes it isn't necessarily real but we find beauty in it. We enjoy it and it becomes a work of art to us. Even if one is not an artist they can keep in mind that liking fantasy is not a bad thing. It can enrich one's life and make the boring seem interesting.

If you want to come up with stories that captivate people you must break free from the thought that fiction is a waste of time or is lies. Fiction means something made up but it does not mean it is bad or a bunch of lies. We need to see that fiction is not bad but is fun, creative and can be beautiful just like the beauty of real things around us. It inspires such good creativity.

Just keep your work clean and about things that are good and it will not be bad but can open people's hearts and minds to a new world or way of thinking. Bring out the beauty that others don't see but you do. They will like it and they will appreciate you for it.
